Getting a good night of sleep is crucial for our physical and emotional health, and lack of it can have consequences for our mood, weight, hormone levels, concentration, energy, etc. CBD for Sleep has proven to be very effective, unlike the many ‘Big Pharma’ sleeping pills that not always work and usually have terrible side effects.

CBD Oil improves Sleep Quality and Quantity
According to research, CBD wanes off the roots of insomnia. Cannabidiol reduces anxiety or eliminates it. And anxiety is often the cause of insomnia.

Laboratory Studies
A 2006 lab study on rats shows that CBD enhanced activity in waking-related brain areas, and CBD also induced an increase in dopamine release. Scientists again confirmed the wake-inducing properties and effects of CBD in a 2008 lab study.
In 2014, lab tests on mice demonstrated that the endocannabinoid system actively regulates cortical up-states and important features of NREM (non-rapid eye movement) sleep, like duration and low-frequency cortical oscillations. Previous investigations in 2013 demonstrated that we could use systematically administered cannabinoids therapeutically to decrease the apnea/hypopnea index in rats and humans.
Apnea is pausing in breathing, and hypopnea is overly shallow breathing or an abnormally low respiratory rate during sleep. A 2016 report concluded that endocannabinoid signaling regulates sleep stability. The researchers also discovered that the magnitude of the effects depended on the time of day they administered CBD.

Clinical studies
A 2004 clinical study on four adult males and four adult females concluded that 15 mg of CBD increased awake activity during sleep and counteracted the residual sedative activity of 15 mg THC. Ten years later, in 2014, a series of clinical case studies were performed on patients with rapid-eye-movement sleep behavior disorder (RBD). The patients treated with CBD had a prompt and substantial reduction in the frequency of RBD-related events like nightmares and active behavior during dreaming.
In 2016, a clinical case study was done on a ten-year-old girl with PTSD due to sexual abuse during early childhood (see also our article on PTSD). One of the PTSD symptoms this little girl had was insomnia. CBD treatment of this little girl resulted in a steady improvement in the quality and quantity of her sleep.
CBD Oil Dosage for Sleep Disorders
Scientists have proven that it is impossible to overdose on CBD. You would have to take such an enormous amount of it that is physically impossible to consume. And besides a dry mouth, there are no side effects to it.
Therefore, you can quickly determine the CBD dosage level. We are all different, but, more importantly, the level of sleep disorder each of us has is also different. If you take a standard dosing of 25 mg per day, to maintain your health and keep your homeostasis at an optimal level, your sleep should significantly improve.
It is better to divide your daily dosings into two and take half in the morning and the other half at night. The best time in the evening is a couple of hours before you go to bed. Some people have trouble falling asleep right after taking CBD, so give it one or two hours.
My personal experience, is that it gradually improved my sleep, and although I got used to taking it right before going to bed, it doesn’t cause any problems falling asleep. But I need to add that I didn’t have a sleep disorder to begin with.

Mild Sleeping Disorder CBD Dosage
For mild to medium sleeping disorders, people usually take 50 to 100 mg of CBD daily and report good results. You can experiment with the dosage and the timing. For example, some people reported being able to fall asleep without CBD, but they take it when they wake up to continue sleeping during the middle of the night.
Severe Sleeping Disorder CBD Dosage
Severe cases of sleep disorders have told us that they use as much as 150mg to 200mg daily for a much-improved sleep. Almost all people that use CBD do not only sleep better at night but also have a much clearer head during the daytime.
Such high doses of CBD can be quite costly, though. Fortunately, since recently, online retailers offer delta 8 THC for sale. It is stronger than CBD but has less impairing effects than delta 9 THC.
