Fibromyalgia Syndrom (FMS) is a chronic pain syndrome that affects muscles and soft tissue. CBD for Fibromyalgia has a proven track record, but there is no ‘Big Pharma’ medication that works.
FMS is one of the most common chronic pain syndromes in which the central nervous system misinterprets the pain sensations that come from the various parts of the body.
Regular moderate exercise, relaxation techniques, and good sleep hygiene (sleep quality) positively affect the condition. But don’t overdo it with the activities, or you’ll crash and burn, as your system is oversensitive.
The National Fibromayalgia Association (FMA) estimates that 10 million people in the US (3%) and an estimated 3-6% of the population worldwide suffer from Fibromyalgia.
It is a condition that affects more women than men; according to the US government statistics, 75% to 90% of the cases are in females. The symptoms that men have are also milder and fewer, in general. Some symptoms of this syndrome are:
- Severe neck pain
- Back pain in several tender spots
- Widespread muscle pain
- Extreme tenderness
- Oversensitive to light
- Sleep disturbance
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Morning stiffness
- Low energy levels
Concerning the cause of the disease, not much is known yet. But scientists have proven that there are genetic components involved, and, for example, people that have had trauma’s like a whip-lash seem to be more prone to get it.
Acccording to the FMA 8% of seniors over 80 suffer from Fibromyalgia as incidence rises with age, .
CBD Relief from Fibromyalgia
As we all know, cannabidiol or CBD has been used to treat chronic pain issues for thousands of years already. Besides that, scientists have proven the anti-inflammatory workings of CBD. Besides many other cannabidiol health benefits, treating chronic pain with CBD is probably the most common.
You cannot get addicted to cannabidiol, and your body doesn’t develop a tolerance, unlike most regular painkillers. Fibromyalgia patients have reported the following impacts of CBD on Fibromyalgia:
- Alleviation of pain
- Reduction of morning stiffness
- Improvement of sleep
- Anxiety reduction with CBD
- Mood improvement
Scientific Studies on Fibromyalgia
Unfortunately, there are very few studies done so far on fibromyalgia. However, the available tests show the potential that CBD has.
In 2009, researchers concluded that CBD could be used for relieving neuropathic pain after a 2008 study had indicated that cannabidiol could relieve migraines and fibromyalgia. Cannabidiol protects nerves from initial damage and promotes nerve repair.
Besides that, CBD improves your mood and reduces pain perception. CBD relieves your depression that is often a result of fibromyalgia.
In 2014, the National Pain Foundation and National Pain Report conducted a major online survey amongst over 1,300 fibromyalgia patients. Marijuana was found to be more effective for treating fibromyalgia than any of these three FDA approved ‘Big Pharma’ fibromyalgia drugs:
- Cymbalta (Duloxetine)
- Lyrica (Pregabalin)
- Savella (Milnacipran)
2014 Fibromyalgia Survey Results
CYMBALTA (DULOXETINE)
LYRICA (PREGABALIN)
SAVELLA (MILNACIPRIN)
of surveyed fibromyalgia patients reported that Medical Marijuana was very effective
MEDICAL CANNABIS
Approximately 70% of the surveyed patients had never tried medical marijuana. The majority of those who had tried it reported that it was very effective in providing relief from fibromyalgia.

CBD Oil Dosage for Fibromyalgia
For severe cases, people reported to take a dosage of 50 mg per day to start with is recommended. Increase it with 20 mg after four days if the symptoms have not reduced (enough). Most patients report finding relief with a dosage between 50 mg and 100 mg.
For example, start by taking 25 mg twice a day and, if necessary, increase to three times a day after four days. This increases your dosage to 75 mg per day.

There is no problem with experimenting with dosage levels, as scientists proved it impossible to overdose. Besides that, there are no CBD side effects.
When choosing an oil, make sure it is full-spectrum hemp oil, meaning that besides CBD, other cannabinoids (for example, THC) are present. THC is usually chosen to be below the legal limit of 0,3% and doesn’t cause a high but does contribute to the effectiveness of the oil.
How you take cannabidiol is up to you, but there are slight differences in absorption rate and speed to consider.
In severe cases, many people take medical marijuana oil with a higher THC level. This raises the entourage effect, and it is therefore even more effective than a full-spectrum CBD oil.
